UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration

One of the main themes of the Festival is the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration.
This initiative was launched in 2019 and covers the period from 2021 to 2030. It aims to bring together efforts to save ecosystems and restore nature, as human well-being, resource security, and climate change are directly linked to the health of our ecosystems.

As part of this initiative, the following goals are planned:

• restore degraded ecosystems — including forests, wetlands, coral reefs, and other natural areas;
• increase resilience to climate and economic shocks;
• improve people’s quality of life — from combating poverty to protecting the planet from pollution.

To achieve these goals, 10 key initiatives have been identified, each of strategic importance:

• The Atlantic Forests Tri-National Pact;
• Abu Dhabi Marine Restoration;
• Great Green Wall for Restoration and Peace;
• Namami Gange Initiative;
• Mountain Partnership;
• Small Island Developing States;
• Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative;
• Central American Dry Corridor;
• Indonesia’s Collaborative Action for Nature;
• China’s Shanh-Shui Initiative.
